 Reardon would like and read.

Harvard Business Review cartoon

This drawing appears on page 8 in the September issue. It's nice these pros still send you 2 copies of the magazine plus 2 tear sheets. Playboy sends you a gratis copy also when your work appears in a particular issue, and so still a few others do . . . but because of the cost of doing business and the declining print markets revenue and the state of the economy, more magazines have stopped this practice which for decades was a standard way of doing business . . .
I always make it a practice to read at least a couple articles in the magazine to get a "feel" of their particular niche in their corporate audience.

Harvard Business Review cartoon

This drawing appears on page 58 in the February 2009 issue. Line drawing scanned and rendered on my Corel PaintShopPro 11 program. Then it was printed on Hewlett-Packard heavy photo paper, and mailed to client.

Harvard Business Review cartoon

This drawing appears on page 18 ( January 2009 issue ), a section called Strategic Humor. All 3 cartoons this month were done in color. The other two cartoons were a couple of nifties by Dave Carpenter and John Caldwell, two of my favorite artists, whose work you see EVERYWHERE !

Harvard Business Review cartoon

This drawing appears on page 12 in the January 2009 issue. It's always nice when your drawings are used as a half page - - you're able to see the details more closely and inspect the technique for studying, if you're inclined to do so.

Harvard Business Review Cartoon

This drawing appears on page 91 of the new September issue of this prestigious magazine . . they devoted a half page to it and it really does justice to the sketch.

I always enjoyed the full-page cartoons they USED to do in The New Yorker and of course you still see in Playboy. Actually, as for the New Yorker, there isn't as much need for they would not be appreciated to print a huge cartoon of so many ugly drawings they use now . . in fact, many of the new wave of cartoonists should have their work printed even smaller, as far as many people are concerned. SIZE in this case matters, because it's a visual thing . . remember, many of these ugly, amateurish drawings are produced by WRITERS attempting to draw.

In my opinion, writers should write, and continue to hone their skill.
cartoonists should cartoon and continue to hone THEIR skills to become as good as they can be. The same for nuclear scientists, shoemakers, shirtmakers, skiers, skaters.

Of course it's okay to try your hand in other fields that interest you, but, man, once you see that you're wasting your time, MOVE ON . .
for God's sake . . there is nothing wrong with failing at something new .
At least you TRIED . . Now get the HELL out of the way . . You wonder, is it the fault of this poor sap which keeps producing CRAP or is it the fault of the EDITORS buying and publishing this CRAP ?

No need to mention names . . as George Carlin used to say . . " You ugly people know who you are ! "

Harvard Business Review Cartoon

This drawing appears in the September issue on page 22 of the magazine. It's in a regular feature called " Strategic Humor ".

The editors will choose cartoons which are related to a book which they are reviewing. In this case, the book is titled " How to write a business plan " by William A. Sahlman. Teresa Burns Parkhurst and Rod Rossi are also featured cartoonists.

Barron's Cartoon - 2003

This drawing appeared on page T3, November 10
( Marine Corps Birthday ). The drawing was colored with pastels except for the two suits which were done with Prismacolor markers because of the way you can do a large area without leaving ' brushmarks '.

Barron's color cartoon ( 2003 )

This drawing appeared o page 45 in the October 20 issue, as you can see it was finished in color upon their request . . at this time they started using color to break up the columns of monotnous 'grey' type page after page of small boring type. This cartoon was colored using pastel chalks and soft pastel pencils and a smudge technique. All three uniforms were colored
using prisma color felt tip markers. By using these markers you're able to get a solid color in a large area without any overlapping ' brush ' marks.
