Harvey Bosch original

This is from my little collection of originals. The story behind this one . . back around the early 90's, Michelle Urry, the then Playboy Cartoon Editor was also contracted as a cartoon editor for Good Housekeeping and The AARP Magazine . . . Michelle had never bought any of my stuff for Playboy but began buying my work for Good Housekeeping . .

After the second cartoon came out, I got a phone call from Harvey Bosch ( I believe he lived in Oregon or Washington state then ) I heard on the intercom: " Roy, pick up line one. " . . I said Hello, and I heard a male voice say, Hello, This is Harvey Bosch . . Do you KNOW somebody at GOODHOUSEKEEPING ?" . . I said No, why do you ask ? He then went on to tell me how he used to sell there a lot, but doesn't know what happened.

I simply explained that stuff like this happens all the time . . different editors like different cartoonists . . no big deal . . I guess I thought it was funny, because I was a new guy on the block, and he was wondering that I MUST know somebody to sell my cartoons, in other words, I MUST know somebody because my work was beginning to be seen in various magazines. ( Obviously making the inference that the only way I could sell my work is by knowing someone, Gee, nobody ever told me ).

Anyway, after a little small talk he asked to trade originals, which I did.

I always thought Harvey was a true pro with his own style and his work was all over the place in the 80's and 90's. I heard he passed away a few years back. He was a nice guy.

That's was wonderful, Roy. You must have a thousand more stories like this.

Hey, Dan, good, I like a comment on MY comments . . It encourages me either to draw and shut up, or shoot the breeze a little with my fellow cartoonists, from time to time - - I know that I like little stories like that and I assume others do too. Again, thanks - - I expect to see more and more of your work in the NYer, I think you have a fresh, new, clean style and I like it.
